Poster design for the Brabanter, also displayed at The Brabanter Exhibit at TU Eindhoven
In 1891, Gerard Philips founded a lightbulb factory in the heart of Eindhoven. In 1925, designer Louis Kalff joined the company, replacing the more than 25 different typefaces previously used for the word "Philips" with a bold and unified wordmark. He also introduced standardised colour usage, focusing on primary colours.
This poster is a blend of my love for vintage packaging, with its beautiful typography, limited colour palettes, printing misalignments and rich textures, and my fascination with Philips, the company where my grandfather worked for over 40 years. Unfortunately, he passed away before I was born, but seeing the Philips brand name always feels like a small family reminder and makes me wonder about his time there.
